Handforged 1095 Folded Steel Red Blade Katana with Matte Black Saya
Unleash the striking contrast of a fiery red blade encased in classic stealth. This 1095 folded steel red blade Katana is meticulously handcrafted by our master smiths at
High-Performance 1095 Folded Steel Red Blade
The core strength of this weapon lies in its high-carbon 1095 folded steel composition. Forged and repeatedly folded by hand to remove impurities, the steel reveals a subtle, mesmerizing grain pattern (Hada). It is expertly tempered and oil-quenched to achieve high durability and edge retention.
The blade undergoes a specialized treatment to achieve its vibrant red color, which contrasts beautifully with its brilliant mirror-polished finish. Crafted in the traditional Shinogi-Zukuri shape, the blade includes a defined Yokote (tip line) and a single Hi (groove/fuller) designed to lighten the sword, improve structural balance, and deliver that distinct audible feedback (Tachikaze) during swings.
Premium Handle & Classic Matte Black Saya
The Tsuka (handle) is designed for a secure, slip-resistant grip under intense use. It features vibrant red genuine rayskin (Samegawa) wrapped tightly in black synthetic silk Tsuka-Ito using the timeless Hineri-Maki style. The handle assembly is anchored firmly to the full tang by two traditional bamboo Mekugi (pegs), ensuring complete structural integrity.
Complementing the fiery red blade is an elegant, understated Matte Black Saya (scabbard) made of hardwood. The Saya is tied off with a striking black synthetic silk Sageo cord accented with red spots, tying the entire red-and-black aesthetic together seamlessly. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (sleeve), Kashira (pommel), and Menuki are crafted from sleek, durable alloy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1: Is this red blade Katana real and functional, or is it just for display?
A: This is a 100% real, fully functional, battle-ready samurai sword. Handforged from high-carbon 1095 folded steel, oil-quenched, and tempered, it features a robust full-tang construction capable of real tameshigiri (target cutting).
Q2: How does the blade get its vibrant red color? Will it rub off?
A: The brilliant red finish is achieved via a specialized electrochemical plating process applied to the polished surface of the folded steel. While highly durable against normal handling and drawing, repetitive heavy cutting practice against hard targets can cause the surface color to wear down over time.
Q3: Can I order this sword with a blunt (unsharp) edge for safe training?
A: Yes. While it ships standard with a very sharp cutting edge, we can customize it to be completely unsharp (blunt) for iaido or safe dojo training. Simply add a note during checkout or message us immediately after purchasing.
Q4: How long does it take to forge, assemble, and ship my order?
A: Because each sword requires hand-forging, manual mirror-polishing, and precise hand-assembly, production typically takes 1-2 weeks. Global tracking information will be provided as soon as your sword passes quality control and ships out.
Q5: What standard accessories come with the sword?
A: Every custom sword from Hanbon Forge comes carefully packaged with a complimentary protective cotton sword bag and an official Certificate of Authenticity confirming its forged specifications.
