Damascus Steel Clay Tempered Katana with Dragon Koshirae

This hand-forged Damascus steel katana features a clay tempered blade, visible hamon and traditional dragon-themed fittings. The combination of layered steel, dark fittings and engraved saya gives the sword a distinctive traditional Japanese look.

The blade is forged from Damascus steel and folded 13 times to create a layered grain pattern. It is differentially hardened using the traditional clay tempering method, producing a harder edge and a softer spine. After polishing, the natural hamon can be seen running along the cutting edge.

The blade is made with a full tang for a solid connection between the blade and handle. A bohi is also added to the blade, giving it a traditional appearance while reducing some weight.

The dragon theme continues throughout the koshirae. The brass tsuba and menuki feature detailed dragon designs, while the handle is wrapped in traditional Japanese-style ito over genuine samegawa. The combination of the textured ray skin and dark handle wrap provides a secure and classic finish.

The wooden saya is decorated with dragon engraving to match the fittings. Together with the Damascus blade, the engraved saya gives the katana a distinctive appearance when displayed.
