Hand-Forged T10 Steel Handachi-Style Katana with Genuine Choji Hamon and Black Iron Mokkō Tsuba

This Handachi-Style Katana combines a traditionally inspired Japanese sword mounting with a hand-forged T10 steel blade, genuine Choji Hamon, elegant beige Hineri-Maki wrapping, antiqued genuine rayskin, and a distinctive matte black iron Mokkō-shaped tsuba. Its black, beige, and gold color combination gives the sword a refined and traditional appearance while maintaining a strong visual presence.

The blade is hand forged, clay tempered, oil quenched, hand polished with Hazuya polishing, and hand assembled. From the O-Kissaki and Shinogi-Zukuri blade geometry to the carefully coordinated koshirae, every major component is designed to create a cohesive Japanese sword aesthetic.

Distinctive Handachi-Style Design

The defining visual character of this sword is its Handachi-style mounting. Instead of following the appearance of a conventional modern katana, the mounting incorporates traditional-inspired fittings and decorative details that give the sword a distinctive historical character.

The high-gloss black lacquered hardwood saya, matching dark metal fittings, beige sageo, and contrasting handle create a balanced black-and-beige color scheme. The result is a sophisticated sword that stands out from more conventional katana designs.

Hand-Forged T10 Steel Blade

The blade is made from T10 high-carbon steel and features a traditional Shinogi-Zukuri blade shape. It has no Bo-Hi, giving the blade a solid and substantial appearance, while the defined Yokote and long O-Kissaki create a distinctive traditional Japanese sword profile.

The blade is fully tang and uses two bamboo Mekugi to secure the handle. A copper Habaki and copper Seppa complete the blade-to-mounting assembly.

  • Steel: T10 Steel
  • Blade Shape: Shinogi-Zukuri
  • Bo-Hi: None
  • Yokote: With Yokote
  • Kissaki: O-Kissaki
  • Tang: Full Tang

Genuine Choji Hamon

The blade features a genuine Choji Hamon, a distinctive hamon pattern characterized by flowing, rounded, and flame-like formations along the hardened edge.

The blade is clay tempered and oil quenched, and then finished with Hazuya polishing. The combination of traditional-style heat treatment and hand polishing brings out the visual character of the Choji Hamon while maintaining the handcrafted appearance of the blade.

Traditional Hineri-Maki with Genuine Rayskin

The handle features beige synthetic silk Hineri-Maki over antiqued genuine rayskin. The light beige wrapping provides a striking contrast against the black iron fittings and black lacquered saya.

The tsuka has a hard wood core and is secured with two bamboo Mekugi. A gold-color flower Menuki adds a subtle decorative accent beneath the traditional wrapping.

Matte Black Iron Mokkō Tsuba

The sword is fitted with a distinctive matte black iron Mokkō-shaped tsuba. The guard features subtle Inome-inspired heart-shaped cutouts together with a raised border design, creating visual interest while retaining a restrained traditional appearance.

The matte black iron finish is matched by the black iron Fuchi and Kashira, creating a consistent dark-metal theme throughout the handle assembly.

High-Gloss Black Hardwood Saya

The sword is paired with a hardwood saya finished in high-gloss black lacquer. A black metal end cap provides additional tip protection and structural durability, while matching dark metal accents are fitted along the body of the scabbard.

A matching beige woven sageo is tied around the kurikata, with decorative hanging ends that complement the beige tsuka-ito and complete the overall color scheme.

Handcrafted from Blade to Mounting

This sword is produced through a hand-forged, hand-polished, hand-assembled, traditional handmade sword-making process. Each major stage contributes to the character of the finished sword, from forging and heat treatment of the T10 blade to the polishing, handle wrapping, fitting assembly, and final mounting.

The combination of a genuine Choji Hamon, O-Kissaki blade profile, antiqued genuine rayskin, black iron fittings, and Handachi-style mounting makes this sword a distinctive choice for collectors and Japanese sword enthusiasts.

Sharpness and Customization

The standard blade is supplied very sharp, while an unsharp version can be requested when placing an order. The sword can also be customized according to the buyer's preferences.

The blade and tang can be engraved upon request at no additional charge. If you prefer a different accessory or color, customization is also available. Additional Japanese sword fittings can be selected from the HanBon Forge fittings collection.

Blade Engraving and Mei Options

The sword is supplied without a standard Mei or engraving. However, buyers can request a free inscription on the tang, and blade engraving can also be added according to the buyer's requirements.

This customization option makes the sword suitable for customers looking for a more personalized Japanese sword.
