Dragon vs. Snake Katana – 1060 High Carbon Steel
The HanBon Forge Dragon vs. Snake Katana combines a clean black-and-blue color scheme with a distinctive Japanese-inspired animal motif. At the center of the design is a decorative tsuba depicting a dramatic confrontation between a dragon and snake, giving the sword a character that stands apart from more conventional katana fittings.
Its blade is hand forged from 1060 high carbon steel, heat treated and oil quenched for a practical balance of strength and toughness. A full tang construction, two bamboo mekugi and traditional-style removable mounting complete a sword designed with both appearance and functional construction in mind.
The dark tsuba, vivid blue handle wrap and matching blue sageo contrast with the polished blade and gloss black saya, creating a bold but balanced appearance inspired by traditional Japanese sword aesthetics.
Hand-Forged 1060 High Carbon Steel Blade
The blade is forged from 1060 high carbon steel, a dependable sword steel known for its toughness and resistance to excessive brittleness. After forging, the blade is heat treated and oil quenched to establish a consistent working hardness throughout the steel.
The blade is then hand polished through multiple finishing stages to produce a clean, bright surface that highlights its traditional Shinogi-Zukuri-inspired geometry.
A long bo-hi runs along each side of the blade. The groove removes unnecessary weight from the blade while helping create a more responsive handling profile.
Full Tang & Double Mekugi Construction
The nakago extends into the tsuka as a full tang and is carefully fitted to the wooden handle core. The tsuka is secured with two bamboo mekugi, following the removable assembly commonly found on traditionally mounted Japanese-style swords.
This construction also allows the sword to be carefully disassembled when necessary for inspection and maintenance.
Dragon vs. Snake Koshirae
One of the most distinctive elements of this katana is its Dragon vs. Snake themed tsuba. The dark finish of the guard contrasts with the blue tsuka-ito and creates a strong visual focal point between the polished blade and black saya.
The tsuka features a traditional-style Hineri-Maki wrap in blue, while the saya is finished in high-gloss black and paired with a matching blue sageo.

A Bold Katana with Traditional Construction
The appeal of this katana comes from the combination of a relatively restrained black saya with vivid blue accents and an unusually detailed Dragon vs. Snake theme. Rather than relying on excessive decoration, the design concentrates its visual character around the fittings and color coordination.
Combined with a hand-forged 1060 high carbon steel blade, full tang construction and traditional-style removable tsuka, it offers collectors a sword with both distinctive styling and authentic Japanese sword-inspired construction.
Handmade by HanBon Forge
Each HanBon Forge katana is individually assembled and finished by hand. Attention is given to the blade polish, fitting alignment, tsuka wrapping and the fit between the blade and saya before the sword is prepared for shipment.
Because this is a handmade product, minor variations in polishing, wrapping, wood grain and fitting finish may occur. These small differences are normal characteristics of handcrafted swords rather than mass-produced decorative items.
Please select your preferred sharpening option before adding the sword to your cart. If you have additional requirements, you can also leave a note with your order.
