Hand-Forged T10 Steel Tanto with Genuine Notare Hamon – Traditional Shirasaya
This hand-forged T10 steel Tanto combines a simple traditional Shirasaya style with a carefully crafted Japanese-style blade. Designed with a Hira-Zukuri blade profile, genuine Notare Hamon, and a clean natural wood Shirasaya, this Tanto offers a restrained appearance for collectors, martial arts enthusiasts, and those who appreciate traditional Japanese sword craftsmanship.
The blade is made from T10 steel and features a genuine Notare Hamon created through clay tempering and oil quenching. The blade receives Hazuya polishing to bring out the characteristics of the steel and temper line while maintaining the understated appearance of the Shirasaya mounting.
T10 Steel Blade with Genuine Notare Hamon
T10 steel is a high-carbon tool steel commonly selected for handmade blades. In this Tanto, the blade is clay tempered and oil quenched, producing the foundation for its genuine Notare Hamon. The blade is finished with Hazuya polishing, giving the surface a traditional hand-polished appearance.
The blade uses a Hira-Zukuri construction without a Bo-Hi. It has no Yokote and no Kissaki, giving the Tanto a clean and straightforward blade geometry consistent with its selected style.
Traditional Shirasaya Mounting
The Tanto is mounted in a natural plain wood Shirasaya. Both the handle and scabbard use a simple natural wood finish, keeping the focus on the blade rather than decorative fittings. This minimalist design gives the Tanto a traditional and understated appearance.
The handle has a natural plain wood interior and uses a single bamboo Mekugi. The blade features a full tang construction, while the Habaki and Seppa are made from brass.
Hand-Forged and Traditionally Handmade
This Tanto is produced through a traditional handmade process, including hand forging, hand polishing, and hand assembly. Each stage contributes to the individual character of the finished sword and reflects the craftsmanship involved in producing a handmade Japanese-style blade.
The cutting edge is supplied very sharp by default and can be customized to an unsharp edge upon request. Buyers who require a different specification can contact HanBon Forge before production.
