The Shinogi-Zukuri blade is clay tempered and oil quenched, then finished with Hazuya polishing. A Yokote and Chu-Kissaki complete the traditional blade profile, while the absence of a Bo-Hi gives the blade a solid appearance. The matching piano dark blue saya and dark blue sageo continue the color theme from the handle to the scabbard.

T10 Steel Blade with Genuine Notare Hamon

The blade is forged from T10 steel and shaped in the classic Shinogi-Zukuri style. T10 is a high-carbon tool steel frequently selected for handmade katana because it can be heat treated for a hard cutting edge while maintaining the characteristics required for a functional sword blade.

A genuine Notare Hamon runs along the blade with a flowing, gently undulating pattern. The Hamon is created through clay tempering rather than being simply painted or etched onto the surface.

The blade is oil quenched after clay tempering and receives Hazuya polishing as the final blade polish. This combination highlights the traditional character of the blade and the visual movement of the Hamon.

Traditional Shinogi-Zukuri Profile

The Shinogi-Zukuri blade features a defined Yokote and Chu-Kissaki, giving the katana a recognizable traditional Japanese sword profile. This model has no Bo-Hi, leaving the blade without a fuller and creating a substantial visual presence.

With a Nagasa of 70.50 cm (27.76 inches), a Motohaba of 3.20 cm (1.26 inches), and a Sori of 2.10 cm (0.83 inches), the blade has proportions suited to the classic katana form.

Ocean Waves and Nami-Themed Fittings

One of the defining features of this katana is its coordinated Nami wave theme. The brass tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki all feature an Ocean Waves / Rolling Waves design with golden foam spray, creating a consistent decorative style throughout the sword mounting.

The combination of dark blue and brass gives the fittings a distinctive contrast. The flowing wave pattern also complements the naturally undulating appearance of the genuine Notare Hamon on the blade.

Dark Blue Hineri-Maki Tsuka

The handle is wrapped in dark blue synthetic silk using the traditional Hineri-Maki style. Under the wrapping is antiqued genuine rayskin, while the inner handle core is made from hard wood.

Two bamboo mekugi secure the full tang inside the handle. The dark blue wrapping provides a visual connection between the handle and the piano dark blue saya.

Piano Dark Blue Saya

The katana comes with a piano dark blue finish saya and matching dark blue sageo. The glossy finish gives the scabbard a refined appearance while maintaining the overall dark blue color scheme of the sword.

Copper is used for both the habaki and seppa, providing the supporting components between the blade and sword mounting.
