Michonne Walking Dead Katana – Kobuse Blade with Real Hamon
Inspired by the distinctive katana carried by Michonne in The Walking Dead, this premium handmade sword combines an instantly recognizable design with a sophisticated traditional-style blade construction.
Unlike a standard replica sword, this model features a Gyaku-Kobuse laminated blade, combining a hard 1095 high-carbon steel core with an outer layer of folded steel. The blade is also clay tempered to create a genuine differential hardening line, producing a natural real hamon rather than an artificial etched pattern.
A traditional-style Hazuya polish is applied to enhance the appearance of the hamon and give the blade its distinctive refined finish. Combined with the leather-wrapped fittings and recognizable white-and-black handle design, this katana is an excellent choice for collectors of movie and television swords.
Gyaku-Kobuse Blade Construction
The blade is constructed using two different types of steel. A harder 1095 high-carbon steel core forms the cutting section, while folded steel surrounds the core as the outer jacket.
This laminated construction is known as Gyaku-Kobuse. It gives the blade a more complex structure than a conventional mono-steel replica and creates subtle layered steel patterns along the surface.
Genuine Clay-Tempered Hamon
The blade undergoes a traditional-style differential heat treatment. Clay is applied more thinly along the cutting edge and more heavily along the spine before quenching.
Because different areas of the blade cool at different rates, a visible transition line naturally develops between the hardened edge and the softer body of the blade. This creates a genuine hamon formed during heat treatment, rather than a decorative pattern applied afterward.
Hazuya Polished Finish
After heat treatment, the blade receives a Hazuya-style polishing process designed to bring out the hamon and highlight the contrast within the steel.
The result is a softer, refined surface appearance that emphasizes the blade's temper line and gives this sword a more traditional visual character.
Michonne-Inspired Koshirae
The mounting is designed to reproduce the recognizable appearance associated with Michonne's katana. The white handle contrasts with black diamond-shaped openings, while gold-tone fittings add a distinctive decorative accent.
The saya is wrapped in dark brown leather and fitted with an adjustable shoulder strap, recreating one of the most recognizable characteristics of the sword seen on screen.
